12cm X 20cm | 40pp Inserts: 10cm x 14cm | 24pp Wire Binding

Handbook for Listening: Part One presents a discussion on field-recording based approach in ecological sound art.

It examines the diverse recording methods, tools, strategies and creative responses employed by contemporary and pioneering sound artists that use field recording-based approaches in ecological sound art. It reveals the development of their undervalued craft of preserving ‘vanishing’ soundscapes and showcases the flexible, adaptable and resilient characteristics of field recording. It also shows that ecological sound art is an experiential art form that encourages us to rediscover the world we live in and enables us to understand and reimagine its many forms. Last but not least, this research simply calls for us to open our ears, listen to what nature has to ‘say’ and re-examine our complex relationship with it.
